The highly-awaited second season of the musical adult cartoon Hazbin Hotel launches on Prime Video soon, and fan speculation has been intense.
The first season presents a diverse group of personalities residing in Hell and Heaven, pits them against each other with musical numbers detailing their conflicts, and builds tense rivalries and emotional bonds that fuel fan obsession.
The fandom's stated hopes for the new season vary widely, but certain threads recur frequently: Could a fan-favorite character break free from Valentino? Will we find out more about the binding agreement constraining Alastor the Radio Demon? Will [favorite character] and [other character] finally get together?
"Naturally, I don't make the show with fan service specifically in mind," the showrunner commented recently. "However I feel like me being a fan of my own show means there's a lot of it just naturally. I also want to see these things, and I want some of these things to happen, and clearly some of these things are meant to happen in the show!"
She says her big-picture plan is for a five-season run of Hazbin Hotel. Seasons 3 and 4 have received approval by the production companies, which produce the series.
That might mean viewers have to wait years for some of the biggest payoffs — but they could be shocked at how fast season 2 progresses, and how many of what they're anticipating unfolds now.
"I believe people are going to be highly satisfied," the creator notes. "There are several debut moments. I think we receive some incredible reveals, some really cool origin tales, and even basic elements, [like] I hope this character gets a song. […] We're going to hear much more singing from the characters we didn't get to hear before."
She's certainly aware of the guesses and hopes about season 2 — particularly in the format of fan bingo cards.
"I've seen a couple people make a bingo card about season 2," she says. "Obviously I won't share it, but I've already completed some of them, and almost all of them have almost a bingo. I was like, Oh, if you put this [event] in this spot, it would be a bingo. So that leads me to believe we do a lot [of what fans are waiting for in this season], because I realized, Oh, there's multiple potential bingos on this card. So that brings me joy."
Hazbin Hotel the second season launches on Prime Video on Oct. 29.
